Early Plant Corn

Seedling from Coated Seed

 Coated Corn Prior to Planting

"I planted my Early Plant on April 17, about three weeks earlier than normal.  We had the coldest April and May on record and it was very wet. On May 31st after 44 days in the ground, the corn emerged and I got a good stand.  the product did its job, it withstood the test of nature"

Landec Ag's  Intellicoat Early Plant technology is allowing farmers to plant corn up to 4 weeks early

Here's how it works:

  • Farmers plant a few days to four weeks earlier in the spring.
  • When the soil temperature is below a pre-set temperature, the coating is impermeable to water and protects the seed from chilling injury.
  • When the soil warms above a pre-set temperature, the coating becomes permeable and allows the seed to absorb water and germinate under ideal conditions.

Extensively tested

  • Replicated and farmer trials for four years.
  • Over 50,000 acres of commercial use in 2003.
  • Product used on over 1200 farms in 2003.
  • Tested by major universities and independent research companies.
  • The product is also being tested by several major seed companies.
  • See where it is being used commercially. View Map...

Benefits:

  • Avoid late planting and maximize yields.
  • Provides farmer additional 2-3 days to plant.
  • Optimal germination - healthy and uniform stand - good yields.
  • Better utilization of farm equipment and resources
  • Higher stand counts than corn planted early with no coating.
  • Timely planting of corn and soybean acres.
  • Suited well for no-till farming.
  • Production tool that optimizes farm output - increased farm earnings.
