Pollinator Plus

Male Uncoated           Male Coated

Uncoated and coated seeds are planted at the same time.  The uncoated plants are actively shedding pollen while the coated plants are delayed.

Landec Ag's Intellicoat® Pollinator Plus® technology is being  commercially used by seed companies to improve hybrid seed corn production.

Here's how it works:

  • Pollinator Plus® seed coatings are applied to male inbred seed corn.
  • Coatings are set to delay germination by either 50 or 100 Heat Units.
  • Coated seeds can be mixed with uncoated seeds.

Benefits:

  • The use of the coating reduces risk for the seed companies by reducing or eliminating split planting.
  • Extends pollen shed window to reduce pollination risks and maximize yields in seed fields.

Who is using it:

  • Currently being used by 30 major seed companies in the production of hybrid seed corn.
  • In 2001 Pollinator Plus® was used on more than 30,000 acres.
  • In 2002 it was planted on over 60,000 acres.
  • Trials are underway in Europe.
